About Us

Rustica House® is a family-owned company founded in 1994 and headquartered in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. For more than three decades, we have specialized in handcrafted home furnishings and architectural products created by skilled Mexican artisans using traditional techniques passed from one generation to the next. Every copper range hood, hammered sink, handcrafted table, Talavera ceramic, wrought iron light fixture, and custom furniture piece is made individually rather than mass-produced, allowing us to offer exceptional craftsmanship, extensive customization, and authentic character. We proudly serve homeowners, interior designers, architects, builders, restaurants, hotels, and commercial clients throughout the United States, Canada, and many other countries, helping bring timeless Mexican craftsmanship into homes and hospitality projects around the world.

Our Story

Rustica House began with a simple idea: exceptional handcrafted products deserve to be shared beyond the artisan workshops where they are created. Since 1994, our mission has been to connect customers with talented Mexican craftsmen whose knowledge has often been passed through multiple generations of their families. Rather than manufacturing products in large factories, we partner directly with independent artisan workshops that continue traditional metalworking, woodworking, ceramic painting, stone carving, leatherworking, and upholstery techniques.

Over the years our collection has grown from a small selection of handcrafted furnishings into one of the largest online collections of custom Mexican architectural and home décor products. Although our catalog has expanded considerably, our philosophy remains unchanged. Every order is built specifically for the customer, allowing each piece to retain the individuality, quality, and craftsmanship that define handmade work.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve traditional Mexican craftsmanship while creating functional products that become lasting parts of our customers' homes. We believe handcrafted products should reflect both artistic heritage and practical everyday use. Every project combines artisan skills with modern design requirements so that each product not only looks beautiful but also performs reliably for years to come.

Equally important is supporting artisan communities throughout Mexico. By working directly with experienced craftsmen instead of mass-production facilities, we help preserve traditional trades while providing opportunities for future generations to continue these remarkable skills.

Handcrafted, Never Mass Produced

Unlike factory-produced furnishings manufactured by automated equipment, every Rustica House product is individually handcrafted. Copper is hand hammered thousands of times to create texture. Iron components are forged, welded, ground, and finished by experienced metalworkers. Talavera ceramics are hand painted one brush stroke at a time. Wood furniture is individually assembled and finished using traditional joinery and finishing methods.

This handcrafted process naturally creates subtle variations in hammer marks, patina, wood grain, ceramic painting, and decorative details. These differences are not imperfections—they are evidence that each product has been individually created by skilled artisans rather than produced on an assembly line.

The Artisans Behind Every Product

Our collections represent the work of numerous specialized workshops throughout Mexico. Copper artisans shape and hammer sheet copper into sinks, bathtubs, and range hoods. Blacksmiths create wrought iron lighting, furniture, mirrors, and architectural accents. Ceramic artists continue centuries-old Talavera painting traditions, while cabinetmakers and furniture builders craft solid wood pieces using time-tested techniques.

Many of the craftsmen we work with learned their trade from parents and grandparents, preserving skills that have existed for generations. Their experience cannot be replicated by automated manufacturing equipment, which is why every handcrafted piece possesses its own character and individuality.

Materials We Work With

We carefully select materials that combine beauty, durability, and authenticity. Our collections include handcrafted products made from copper, wrought iron, steel, pewter, zinc, bronze, aluminum, Talavera ceramics, cantera stone, solid hardwoods, natural leather, and upholstery materials selected specifically for handcrafted furniture.

Each material offers unique characteristics that develop naturally over time. Copper develops a living patina, iron acquires subtle variations in finish, wood displays individual grain patterns, and hand-painted ceramics exhibit slight artistic differences. These natural characteristics contribute to the lasting appeal of handcrafted furnishings.

Custom Manufacturing

Nearly every product we offer is made to order. Rather than limiting customers to a small selection of standard products, we encourage customization to better suit each project. Depending on the product category, customers may choose dimensions, finishes, textures, decorative details, hardware options, installation methods, mounting configurations, and other design elements.

Whether you are furnishing a single kitchen or designing an entire luxury resort, our team works closely with customers to develop products that meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

What We Create

Our product collections include handcrafted architectural and home furnishings for virtually every room. Popular categories include copper range hoods, iron range hoods, pewter range hoods, and zinc range hoods for custom kitchen design.

Our Manufacturing Process

Every order begins with careful planning. Once specifications are confirmed, artisans select appropriate materials and begin fabrication using traditional methods. Depending on the product, this may include hand hammering, forging, welding, woodworking, carving, ceramic painting, upholstery, finishing, polishing, and final assembly.

After fabrication, each product undergoes inspection before packaging. Because every piece is individually handcrafted, production requires significantly more time than factory manufacturing, but this approach allows us to deliver products built specifically for each customer rather than taken from warehouse inventory.

Quality Standards

Quality begins long before a product is packaged for shipment. Materials are selected for durability, finishes are carefully applied by experienced craftsmen, decorative details are individually inspected, and completed products are reviewed before shipping.

At the same time, we believe honesty is an essential part of craftsmanship. Handcrafted products naturally display slight variations in hammer marks, patinas, wood grain, paint application, and dimensions. These characteristics are expected and should not be considered manufacturing defects. Instead, they demonstrate the authenticity of handmade production.
