decorative ceramics from Mexico

The history of Talavera decorative ceramics bridges centuries, cultures and continents. Being recognized as one of the most popular forms of decorating haciendas, churches or fountains, the origin of this beautiful ceramic art leads to 15th century Spain. The town of Talavera de la Reina became so internationally acclaimed for its ceramics that is was called “La Ciudad de la Cerámica” (City of the Ceramics). Its unique style came out of a mix of Spanish, Arabic and other European cultures. The artisans travelled to Mexico and introduced the techniques of potter’s wheel and tin-glazing to the local artists. Since then the techniques evolved appropriating the Mexican, rich design and Spanish craft. The capital of the decorative ceramics from Mexico was Puebla but now Dolores Hidalgo, a small town in the State of Guanajuato where we manufacture our amazing products, is also internationally known for the ceramic craft. Talavera ceramics decorated in Mexico are usually meant for daily use by average Mexicans that love their culture, intense color and rich designs. There are hundreds of designs and shapes available for all possible applications. Ceramics are decorated by hand using water-based paints and then fired. High industrial oven temperature bakes the paint and creates a natural lawyer of transparent glaze.

If you looking to enliven your garden, patio or veranda, have a look at our collections of flower planters, pots and wall scones. You will achieve a Spanish, old-world style by adding some multicolor pots around your greenery. You can use them to separate different areas such as the barbecue from the dining space. If you have a more modest balcony or a veranda, you can still create a real Spanish Hacienda vibe by mixing Mexican wall scones with rustic outdoor furniture and handmade tiles. The decorative ceramics from Mexico is a beautiful idea to bring some pop of color inside your home as well. You can place many flower planters around your dining room and bedrooms. We are also producing handcrafted ceramic accessories for bathrooms! The bathroom sets include towel racks, soap dishes, bath toilet paper tissue holders and hooks. We produce those sets in the same patterns as some of our ceramic oval sinks so you can build up an amazing mix and match layouts.
