Mexican Tile Installation

Mexican tile installation is not exactly the same as regular ceramic tiles. The main differences are that tiles from Dolores Hidalgo are not flat so regular hand cutter cannot be used, water saw with a diamond blade only. It includes height relief tiles, kitchen backsplash tile murals and regular talavera tiles. In addition, they differ in sizes so they cannot be installed the way they touch each other. It is necessary to leave space between them to accommodate tiles shape differences. Mexican tiles are rustic vintage looking. They will add old world colonial look to the space.

1. Identify wall center and mark intersecting lines.

2. Begin spreading adhesive in each direction. Begin installing tiles one by one vertically towards the wall end.

3. The tile on each raw end should be of similar dimensions.

4. Firmly press the Hand Painted tile giving it some twist to assure good contact.

5. Lay Mexican Tile about a 1/4 inch apart to accommodate no equal shapes.

6. If you need to cut tiles, use only an electric diamond saw.

7. The following day do the grouting.

8. Clean the backsplash wall, counter surface or your stair riser tiles from excess grout with a wet sponge.

9. A few moments latter wipe any dust left on the surface.
